What is Mahjong?
Mahjong is a 4-player, tile-based game of skill, strategy, and luck developed in the 19th century. Originally a Chinese game, it has many regional variations. This retreat focuses on American Mahjong. It’s a social game that’s easy to learn but offers deep strategic layers, making it perfect for a fun and engaging weekend getaway.
Do I need Mahjong experience?
No. This retreat is designed to teach American Mahjong for beginners and no prior experience is necessary.
How do I get there?
The retreat is located in Poquott, New York on the North Shore of Long Island. It's easily accessible by car, plane, train (LIRR Port Jefferson Station), or the Port Jefferson ferry. We offer pickup/drop-off arrangements for the ferry and train, making it the perfect weekend gateaway for those in New York City, Conneticut, and the surrounding area. We'll share more detailed travel guides with registered participants.
Is there a shared room discount?
Yes, grab your mahj bestie and take advantage of 25% off each! The same rooms offered for single/private booking are available at a cheaper price when sharing with a friend. Two people will need to share one king or queen size bed. Shared rooms must be agreed by both parties in order to finalize booking, we will confirm who you want to share a room with before payment.
What is the cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy for this retreat is as follows: 50% refundable if canceled more than 30 days prior to the retreat. Payments are non-refundable if canceled within 30 days of the retreat.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
No, yoga mats are provided for all participants but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Is anything not included that I should know about?
The retreat package includes lodging, meals, drinks, Mahjong sessions, yoga classes, and most activities. Not included are transportation to/from the retreat, the optional vineyard tour, and any personal shopping throughout the weekend.
Will there be alcohol at the retreat?
Yes. There will be light alcohol included (wine, seltzers, and signature cocktails/mocktails). You’re also welcome to bring your own beverages or purchase from local stores. The vineyard excursion is an optional experience available at an additional cost.
